The Romans conquered countries like Spain (Hispania), France (Gallia) and Britain (Britannia). If you were a Roman soldier you have to at least be in the army for 25 years or more before you could quit. The Romans didn’t just conquer countries nearby, they conquered countries further away because they had more money. The Roman army was the meanest and most powerful fighting force in the ancient world. There was around half a million people in the Roman army but each legion had about 4,000 to 6,000 soldiers in them each legion was divided into groups of about 80 men. Julius Caesar tried to conquer Britain twice and failed both times but in 44 BC Julius Caesar was assassinated. In 410 AD the Romans left Britain because they were being attacked in Italy ending the Romans control over Britain. In 122 Ad Hadrian’s wall was built to keep the Scottish away from Britannia.
